When the leaves begin to change and the air becomes brisk, life tends to slow down, and we tend to spend more time cozying up with a large knit blanket to the scent of pumpkin spice. To welcome the new season upon us, I harvested some of my favorite Fall home decorating ideas for 2021.
My Fall Favorites
Earthy Tones
The changing leaves that symbolize Autumn’s presence represent the colors that are used to decorate during this time of year. Warm tones and earthy, darker shades are very popular, especially this year. Lush deep shades of green are also trending, and you all know how much I love emerald!
Elements of Nature
One of the best parts of decorating for Fall is including elements of nature, like pumpkins, gourds, wheat sheaves, and more. There are so many color choices for pumpkins, so you can go for the route of orange and white or spice it up with green or yellow. Corn stalks, carved pumpkins, and lanterns are often used for outdoor porches.
Cozy Textures
Irresistible and luxuriously plush, velvet is fall’s biggest trend, especially in terms of upholstery. Velvet is warm and comfortable by nature, so it allows you to have fun with color, and not worry about detracting from a cozy fall ambience.
The coziest of spaces are often created with a variety of mixed textures. For example, to contrast a smooth velvet sofa, I would choose a rougher material like a Jute rug, and then add in something uneven like a chunky knit pillow or throw.
Plaid
I’ve always been a plaid-lover, and I couldn’t be more thrilled that this pattern is back in a big way. From the classic tartan, Burberry check, Clan Wallace to gingham, buffalo check, and houndstooth, incorporating plaid is a fun way to add visual interest to any room. Plaids can be found on rugs, pillows, throws, and more.
